ACTIVITIES

Guidance

This programme could be used with any age group as an insight into Scottish castles. As well as being shown as part of the History curriculum, it could also be used as part of general studies lessons for students aged 16-19.

Alongside the programme students could:

• Produce a timeline of the events described in this programme
• Draw a map or sketch of Threave Castle and its outbuildings
• Use the internet to find more examples of tower houses in Scotland
• Plot some tower house castles onto an outline map of Scotland.

Programme-related activities

• The following tasks can be undertaken individually or in pairs
• Usually one copy of each worksheet is needed per student
• Encourage whole-class discussion and feedback after each activity.
