MY BIG GAY PROM

Faye, Arfur, David and Sam – all dressed up and ready to party.
Over two episodes, five gay teenagers, feeling alienated by the recent import of the American-style high school prom, tackle the challenge of planning the UK's first-ever gay prom. They reflect on their experiences of coming out, whilst getting to grips with a five-week enterprise to organise an event where everyone can be 'completely free' to enjoy themselves as their straight counterparts do.
The young people
- Faye, 19, from Ipswich – head of events, must book a venue and develop a theme
- David, 17, from Oxford – treasurer, charged with raising £12,000 worth of sponsorship
- Arfur, 17, from Aylesbury – chairman, responsible for facilitating good working relations
- Zak, 17, from London – head of entertainment, must manage all aspects of the entertainment
- Sam, 19, from Reading – head of publicity, in charge of marketing the event.
The Mentors
- Ivan Massow – self-made millionaire and one of the first businessmen to recognise the power of the 'pink pound'; heads up his own networking and events company
- Amy Lamé – club host and TV personality with 10 years' experience of organising events on the gay club scene; role model for Sam and Faye and self-confessed party lover.
The task
With a timescale of only five weeks, the group forms a committee and must learn to work collaboratively if they are to pull off the landmark event they envisage. They must face the challenges of moving in a range of business environments and situations, and are required to deal with frustrations, make decisions, and somehow find the determination to succeed.
