Each programme has a set of suggested questions, which can be used with students to generate class discussion, plus two activity sheets, which are downloadable and adaptable.

• Programme 1: Gun and knife crime
• Programme 2: Smoking in cars
• Programme 3: Reducing waste
• Programme 4: Body image
• Programme 5: Road safety.

'Speed dating' learning technique

Programme 4's second activity uses a 'speed dating' learning technique. Students either sit in pairs around individual desks or in two concentric circles of chairs – one circle inside the other with a chair from the inner circle facing a chair from the outer circle. In pairs, students talk for an agreed amount of time (say, two minutes) before one of the pair (say, all the students in the inner circle) move on to the next person.

General activities

Students could do some of these activities after watching any one of the programmes. They could view one of the programmes as a whole group, or they could work in pairs to view different programmes (if IT facilities permit).

• Design a campaign poster
• Think of an anagram to be a campaign motto and use it in the design for a car sticker
• Write a three-minute speech to deliver to the rest of the class
• Write a blog to sum up their thoughts about one of the Battlefront issues
• Conduct a short survey of their friends' opinions on one of the Battlefront issues
• Use the Battlefront website to read more and put the Battlefront issues into order of importance for them personally. Then explain this to a small group
• Compare how well two of the young people organised their campaigns
• Design a campaign logo for one of the programmes
• Use the websites listed for each programme to find out Ten Top Facts about that issue.
