It is the patients' third day at the clinic. Although Sandie's level of drug intake is being lowered gradually, Vanessa and Tony have had no drugs or alcohol for days. This programme looks in-depth at the effects alcohol abuse has on the body and how, if Tony keeps drinking, he will die young. Sandie discusses her relationship with her husband. They love each other, but he has become more like her carer than her husband or lover. Visitors are allowed at the clinic, and links with family are encouraged as part of the recovery programme, but Vanessa has had no support from outside. A phone call from her mother upsets her deeply.
