Alex is the main character featured in this programme. He is Ben's brother and a little older than the others in the gang. This makes him think he knows best. A bit of a moaner, he prefers to do everything on his own because he thinks everyone else just interferes with his way of doing things. However, during the course of the programme, Alex realises that working together can have its benefits.

The dilemma introduced in this programme is how to save the tadpoles from asphyxiation as the water in their makeshift tank leaks out.

Alex has noticed a puddle of water forming round the children's feet. He realises that the sink in which the tadpoles are temporarily housed is leaking. If all the water runs out the tadpoles will surely die.
