Answers to viewing questions
- The Greek God is Zeus: he is our Christian equivalent to
Jesus.
- The ancient philosophers mentioned in the program are Socrates,
Plato, Aristotle and Pythagoras. They all once lived in Greece and
their work is still part of today's way of thinking.
- Greek people love 'the sea and everything about it'; from the
colour of the water, being able to swim in it, having lots of fresh
fish to eat. There are so many islands off the Greek mainland that
the sea is an important part of the landscape and so is a big part
of their everyday lives.
Answers to optional assignments
- We know a lot about the ancient Greeks from the historical
buildings, which are found all over Greece. New sites are still
being discovered so this information is always growing.
- The endangered species that can be found in the seas around
Greece include the sea turtle (Caretta-Caretta) and the monk seal
(Monachus-Monachus). Other things that might only be found in
Greece include certain types of plants: in fact there are 750 or
more plants that are indigenous to Greece. (This is in the 'We are
from' website in the Amazing Facts section.)
- Traditional Greek dishes: feta cheese pie, tzatziki, dolmades
(stuffed vine leaves), onion-boiled eggs, or mezedes (a starter),
fogakia (a small dish or side dish)… And traditionally when
Greek people have finished eating they throw their plates onto the
floor.
- Opinion question.
