Answers to viewing questions

  1. Instead of watching TV, the children in the programme like the outdoor life and the mountains. They ski, ride their bikes, climb and play football.

  2. Berlin is a rapidly developing city. In the programme the narrator mentions that many new buildings are being constructed - blocks of flats, office blocks and shopping malls.

  3. Most people in Prerow know how to sail because it is a fishing village, and most families used to fish for a living.

Answers to optional assignments

  1. Opinion question.

  2. In the past, before European countries had learned to get on with one another, having so many borders could be a disadvantage. Over the centuries Germany has been involved in many disputes with other countries over the ownership of land. Today, having so many borders and neighbours is an advantage. The influences of its many neighbouring countries make Germany a very diverse place. It is also easy to travel to other countries and experience different cultures.

  3. Opinion question, although pupils should be aware of the benefits of being properly trained in a job. Not everyone wants to follow an academic education, and the ability to specialise in a particular trade or job can be an advantage later in life.

  4. Opinion question.
