Channel 4 Learning

Channel 4 is not responsible for the content of third party sites.

There are hundreds of websites on the Ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks, but not so many on the Victorians.  Here are some that you may find useful:

1)     http://www.channel4learning.net/sites/victorians/
This is another C4 website on the Victorians but it is not tailored to A Victorian Diary and looks at the age in a much more general way. It includes sections on Victorian toys, Victorian schools, Victorians who helped people and a timeline setting the Victorian era in the context of the last 2000 years.

2)     http://learningcurve.pro.gov.uk/snapshots/default.htm
The Public Record Office has a very useful site that includes a lot of archive photos. In particular try
Site 5 - 'Past Pleasures - how did the Victorians have fun?'
Site 14 - 'Was there much difference between the homes of the Victorian rich and poor?'

3)     http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/TUmatchgirls.htm
This is all about the Matchgirls Strike and contains a lot of primary source material. It is really intended for secondary pupils but it is highly relevant to Programmes 3-4 of A Victorian Diary.
