Hardware and Software guidelines

To view this site, you will need the following:
Computer operating system: Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT4 or later or Apple MacOS 7.6.1 or later.

Browser:
You will have one of the following:
- Netscape Navigator or Communicator version 3.0 or later;
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 or later for Windows;
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 or later for Macintosh.
The site works best with version 4 or later of either browser or it may also work with other browsers that support Netscape compatible plug-ins.

If you have Internet Explorer you can maximize screen size by pressing F11 on the keyboard.

JavaScript: This site uses JavaScript for a number of functions, so your browser must have JavaScript turned on in its preferences, which are accessed from the browser menu bar at the top.
NB It will probably be turned on already.

Sound
In the Reading Task sections you will be able to hear the text read out provided you have a sound card and the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player. This can be downloaded for free by clicking on this icon. (This takes about 25 mins.)

Printing The Omnibus Diary is designed to include all the entries for one day on one page when printed out. If they come out on two pages, reset your printer preferences to a lower font size. - If your browser is Internet Explorer, go to VIEW then FONTS and decrease the size specification. - If your browser is Netscape Navigator, go to VIEW and decrease the size specification. If the text for Writing Task is not printing out at all, follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
Flash/Shockwave: You need Macromedia Shockwave, version 7.0 or later, to access some of the activities on this website. It is very important that you download the very latest version of this plug-in to take avantage of the printing capability in the Writing Task.
