Sustainability
Attractive site with puzzles, experiments, activities, group
activities and worksheets with printable instructions and lots of
environmental information. There’s a guide to help teachers
integrate the material on the site into the Curriculum.
Good
Beach Guide
Children will be able to find out how clean their local beach is
and also find out about the types of pollution that can affect
beaches. No specific information for teachers or primary
schoolchildren but an interesting site nevertheless.
UK Rivers
Network
News about the state of British rivers. There are also some useful
teaching resources on the site for water pollution, finding out
about water, finding out about rivers, finding out about global
warming and climate change and finally, the state of our rivers and
seas. The site suggests a list of selected websites and
(hyperlinked) news articles for each topic. Children will need to
investigate the selected links and news articles to get the
information they need.
Water

Big website with lots of information on water problems around the
world. The site features educational resources and issue sheets for
teachers and a game for primary school children.
Marine
Conservation Society

environmental issues in their curriculum course work.
Mersey
Basin Trust
The River Mersey used to be grubby and dirty but now it’s
clean. That’s thanks to the Mersey Basin Trust. This website
shows how children can get involved surveying and improving the
quality of a local stream or river. There’s advice on site
for teachers wanting to include the material in their
coursework.
Anglian

Another great website. Just click on the Schools button to find the
‘Water in our Lives’ section. Activities and worksheets
in the Schools section deal with conservation and pollution.
There’s also material supporting the geography and physics
curricula.
Welsh
Water
Lots of interesting stuff on this site. Children can work out how
much water their school uses and how this can be reduced –
just look for ‘DIY Water Audit School’ in the pull down
menu on the site. Also, in the ‘Your Education’ section
of the site, look for the ‘Splash Pack' for posters, activity
cards and science challenges. There are interactive activities in
Water & Wildlife and information on the water cycle.
Information on water usage in the third world is given in Wateraids
'Water Literate' section.
Southern

Lots of useful information on things like using water wisely and
bathing water quality results as well as information on the water
