 | | If you have good ideas for how to help the environment in your local area, you should write to your MP.
If your MP thinks you have a good idea, he or she can help by pulling strings with the council or other groups in your area. They are also influential nationally and even internationally. They can write or speak directly about issues with the people high up in the government.
You can meet your MP either at the House of Commons (make an appointment first) or at their surgery (that's MP speak for their local office). Your local library will have details of when and where the surgeries are.
If your MP isn't very helpful, you can write directly to a government minister. They are moved from job to job regularly so ring up first to make sure you've got the right name.
For your MP's or any MP's e-mail address try: www.parliament.uk/directories/hciolists/alms.cfm. All MPs' email addresses and websites – if they have one – are found here.
