Top 10 letter writing tips
  1. Always be polite, even if you're angry about something!

  2. Use your best handwriting. Or better still, type your letter.

  3. If you don’t know the name of the person you’re writing to, start off with ‘Dear Sir/Madam’ and sign it ‘Yours faithfully’.

  4. Explain clearly and briefly what you are concerned about.

  5. Include some facts and brief background information.

  6. Spell out what you want the reader to do about it.

  7. Don’t forget to include your age!

  8. Always ask for an answer.

  9. If you don’t get a reply within ten days, phone to check that they got your letter. If you still don’t get a reply, write a reminder. Let them know that you’re not going to go away.

  10. Keep all your responses, and notes of any phone calls you’ve made, in the same file.
