'Action with Fractions'
In which the Number Crew divide mince pies and other comestibles into edible fractions.

Ted is cooking mince pies and Fiz and Flo want to share one but Ted cuts a pie into uneven bits. To be fair they know they need it cut in half. Ted eats the unequal bits. Then Bradley and Baby Bunting want a pie to share so Ted slices another into two equal parts. All four want to try a bit of Yule Log so Ted cuts it not into halves but four quarters.

Mirabelle is looking for help to decorate the tree but Bradley is worried when he is told he has to divide the six baubles in half: he doesn't want to cut them up. They see they can divide the group into two equal parts without any cutting. Everyone wants to help put up the chocolate decorations so the group of eight chocolates have to be divided into quarters, but if the Number Crew are in the galley making food all day, who is driving the ship? We are in the safe paws / flippers of the Polar Bear and Penguin.

Maths Content Begin to recognise, name and find one half and one quarter of shapes and small numbers of objects.
Studio Action Matt is doing some cooking of his own. When Ted has sliced more successfully Matt demonstrates how to write half in the flour on his pastry board. Next he demonstrates cutting a Yule log into four quarters, then how to halve six baubles without cutting them up and how to divide a group of eight chocolates into quarters. The quiz gives everyone a chance to practise fractions. At the end of the show Matt suggests some more practice with fractions in the classroom and wonders who is looking after the ship while the Number Crew are in the galley.
