'Sports Day'
In which the Number Crew have a sports day, but face a lot of
sorting out of passengers.
It's Sports Day on board the SS Mathematical. Flo and Bradley
decide that a sack race would be a good idea and Fiz decides that
an egg and spoon race would be great. Unfortunately, when she
tries, the egg ends up all over Bradley. Bradley has a tough time
trying to find the right sacks for the right passengers and works
out that four-legged passengers need large sacks and two-legged
passengers need smaller ones.
He sorts them out by getting the two-legged passengers to stand in
one hoop and the four-legged passengers to stand in another.
Fiz works out who should carry which eggs and spoons by sorting out
her passengers into big and small hoops in the same way.
Things get a bit chaotic when both races start at once, but with an
incredible amount of luck and skill the Monkey makes it to the
finish line and wins.

Using blocks and hoops
Matthew shows how to sort the two-legged and four-legged passengers
into two groups and then how to sort the information into a graph.
He does the same for the small and large passengers in the egg and
spoon race.
He emphasises the point, showing some real world examples: groups
of boys and girls; vehicles with different numbers of wheels. He
then shows the information on simple graphs.
