Classroom Aims

The programmes and resources have been designed to:

* give a focused, stimulating selection of ideas and starting points for numeracy work, as outlined in The National Numeracy Framework;
* support direct teaching and interactive oral work with the whole class;
* emphasise mental calculation;
* encourage discussion of ways to tackle problems;
* develop children's understanding and use of mathematical vocabulary;
* engage, stimulate and challenge children and encourage them to become more independent and confident in their numeracy work;
* suggest cross-curricular links especially with English, Music and PE;
* provide teachers with a flexible set of resources which can be used alongside any infant maths scheme.

Home Aims

The programmes and resources have been designed primarily to enhance numeracy teaching in the classroom, but there is a wealth of material here that can easily be used at home to educate and entertain. You may find it useful to look at the areas of the site that deal with using Number Crew to teach maths in the classroom but we hope that watching the Number Crew at home will help your child's learning in the following ways. The programmes aim to:
