Bedside manner – the way you treat people – can make all the difference between actually helping a patient and failing to help them with their problem. If a patient doesn't feel you are listening, they are less likely to confide the symptoms of their ailment. You need to inspire trust, authority and confidence to find out the information you need to help.

There are a number of skills and qualities that all people employed in the health and social care industry will have to develop. Mastering these skills and qualities will help both the surgeon and the hospital porter to perform their duties better.
