Activities for home - Medusa mask

The Greeks invented the theatre. Actors wore masks.

Make your own Greek mask for the part of Medusa. She was a terrifying monster with hair made of snakes.

You will need:

  1. A paper plate

  2. String

  3. Scissors

  4. Felt-tip pens

  5. Paper

  6. Glue

Try this...

  1. Put the paper plate up against your face and mark holes for the string which will hold it on. Mark in the eyes.

  2. Cut out the eye holes.

  3. Draw a face on the mask and decorate it.

  4. You can make a nose by cutting a rectangle of paper, folding it and gluing it to the middle of the mask so that it sticks out.

  5. Add eyebrows by folding strips of paper and sticking them on in the same way.

  6. Cut strips of paper to make Medusa’s snake hair.

  7. Hold a strip in one hand and pull the blade of a pair of scissors along the strip, pressing quite hard. The strip of paper should curl up.

  8. Make more curls and stick them round the top of the plate to make hair.

  9. Make two holes in the sides of the plate and thread string through them.

  10. Tie the string round the back of your head.
