Question
How can soils be different?

Answer

Some have small particles - like clay - and others have large ones, like sandy soils. Some soils are rich in nutrients, so that plants grow well, and others are poor and need added fertilisers. Some have plenty of air spaces in them and lots of plant material - dead leaves and rotting fruits - and these suit soil animals.
